The journey Begins

  • Day 1: Arrive in Moncton

Arrive in Moncton and collect your rental car. Moncton is a lively hub in southeastern New Brunswick and the gateway to Acadian culture. This region sits on lands long shaped by both the Mi’kmaq and Acadian peoples, whose stories are deeply woven into the landscape. Settle into your accommodation and take time to explore the city’s welcoming atmosphere, riverside trails, and local dining scene.

    Overnight: Moncton

  • Day 2: Explore Moncton

Begin your cultural journey with a suggested visit to MR21, an immersive and interactive experience that introduces the history, identity, and resilience of the Acadian people. Through powerful storytelling and multimedia exhibits, you’ll learn about the origins of Acadian communities, their deep connection to the land, and the challenges they faced, most notably the Great Expulsion of 1755, when thousands were forcibly removed from their homes. Despite this, Acadian culture endured and continues to thrive today.
Later, enjoy a relaxed “Flights & Bites” experience at a local winery. As you sample regional wines and local flavours, you’ll be tasting a modern expression of a culture that has evolved while staying deeply rooted in its traditions of hospitality, community, and connection to the land.

    Overnight: Moncton

  • Day 3: Moncton to Bouctouche via Shediac

Travel along the Acadian coastline to Shediac, a vibrant seaside town where the connection between the Acadian people and the sea is ever-present. Fishing has long been central to Acadian life, providing both livelihood and identity for coastal communities.
Stop for a photo at the famous giant lobster before embarking on your Lobster Tales Cruise. As you cruise the waters of Shediac Bay, you’ll gain insight into the traditions of the lobster fishery knowledge passed down through generations. Hear stories of life on the water and learn how these coastal communities have thrived through resilience and deep respect for the ocean.
Continue on to Bouctouche, a town rich in Acadian heritage, where language, traditions, and storytelling remain a vibrant part of everyday life.

  • Day 4: Bouctouche

Today is the cultural heart of your journey. Spend the day at Le Pays de la Sagouine, a unique and deeply meaningful Acadian cultural village inspired by the literary works of Antonine Maillet. Set on a small island, this living theatre brings to life the voice of “La Sagouine,” a symbolic Acadian washerwoman whose stories reflect the struggles, humour, resilience, and identity of the Acadian people.
Through music, storytelling, and performance, you’ll experience Acadian culture not as history alone, but as a living, breathing identity, one shaped by hardship, but defined by strength, pride, and community spirit.
As night falls, continue your journey through story at Akadi Lumina. This immersive night walk transforms the forest into a moving narrative of Acadian history. Through light, sound, and multimedia installations, follow the emotional journey of the Acadian people, from early settlement and harmony with the land, through displacement and exile, to resilience and cultural renewal. It’s a powerful, sensory experience that brings the Acadian story to life in a way that is both moving and unforgettable.

  • Day 5: Bouctouche to Miramichi

Continue north along the coast to Miramichi, a region where multiple cultural histories intersect. Along the way, visit Metepenagiag Heritage Park, where you’ll explore over 3,000 years of Mi’kmaq history. Understanding Mi’kmaq culture provides important context to the Acadian story, as these communities coexisted and shared deep connections to the land and waterways.
In Miramichi, take time to explore at your own pace. This region is known for its storytelling traditions, an art form deeply valued in both Mi’kmaq and Acadian cultures. Whether walking along the riverfront or visiting local sites, you’ll find that stories remain at the heart of this community.

    Overnight: Miramichi

  • Day 6: Miramichi to Caraquet

Travel further along the Acadian Coast to Caraquet, often considered the cultural capital of Acadia. This is a place where Acadian identity is proudly celebrated, most famously during National Acadian Day on August 15th, when communities come alive with music, colour, and the unmistakable sound of the “tintamarre,” a joyful parade of noise and celebration.
Visit the Village historique acadien, an immersive open-air museum that brings Acadian history to life. As you walk through buildings spanning nearly two centuries, costumed interpreters share stories of daily life, survival, and adaptation. From the hardships following the Expulsion to the rebuilding of communities, this experience offers a powerful look at how Acadian culture endured and evolved.

  • Day 7: Explore Caraquet & Miscou Island

Today, explore the northern reaches of the Acadian Coast, where nature and culture remain deeply intertwined. Take a scenic drive to Miscou Island, home to the iconic Miscou Lighthouse. This remote and windswept landscape reflects the enduring connection between the Acadian people and the sea.
As you walk along quiet beaches and take in the vast coastal views, it’s easy to imagine the generations of Acadian families who lived, worked, and built their lives along these shores, guided by resilience, resourcefulness, and a deep sense of place.

  • Day 8: Caraquet to Moncton

Begin your journey back to Moncton, retracing the Acadian coastline that has shaped so much of this story. Along the way, consider stopping in small coastal communities where the French language, traditions, and warm hospitality of Acadian culture remain strong.
This final drive offers time to reflect on the journey, not just across landscapes, but through history, culture, and identity.

    Overnight: Moncton

  • Day 9: Depart Moncton

Your Acadian Coast journey comes to an end today. Return your rental car and depart Moncton with a deeper understanding of the region’s history, culture, and enduring spirit.
